When painting a house, all professional house painters will advise that two coats of paint are needed. Using just one coat of paint results in a surface that is difficult to clean because the paint is absorbed by porous surfaces. When a second coat is applied the surface is easier to clean because the second coat of paint acts as a sealant and barrier. Thus two coats is significantly more durable than a single coat of paint.
