Do I need to sand between coats of exterior paint?

You generally don’t need to sand between coats of exterior paint apart from when they were applied months after the other. The reasons sanding occurs between coats of paint is threefold, firstly to remove and dirt and secondly to create a hardened toothed surface for the paint to bind to the new coat, or thirdly to create a smoother surface by removing brush strokes and so forth.
